We are never going into DC to see those cherry blossoms again.

upload
With little kids in tow, Luke and I just don't deal well in crowds and traffic, so this year we skipped going into DC to see the cherry blossoms and, instead, drove 10 minutes to Meadowlark Gardens. Best decision ever. Not only the blossoms were just as beautiful, but there was zero agitation and annoyance and frustration on our part. Bonus: no one photo-bombed our pictures either :) We took many pictures and I thought I would share a few of my favorites. The nice, breezy weather, combined with the gorgeous scenery of fluffy pink and white blooms, made this a perfect Sunday morning outing for our family.

  1. Such a beautiful place!!

I think "our" Cherry Trees will be in bloom very soon if not already - I just hope the frost they are calling for tonight doesn't kill off the flowers in bloom.

  2. I gotta find us a local spot for viewing cherry blossoms too. I love this one, it has water :). We went to DC on Saturday and let me tell ya, I'm so scared to ever go back again during Peak Bloom, on a weekend. Oh my goodness. I have a picture of the packed Smithsonian platform. Scary. Scary.

    1. Hi Lisa! My mom went on Saturday too and she didn't even make it to the Tidal Basin area. Too many people. I want to see a picture of that platform. I wonder if Brookside Gardens have cherry trees, I bet they do.

    1. There were people there, but scattered about. By the time we left though, we saw a lot more just coming in. Whereever we go, we are usually the early birds and get home before lunch time.

  6. Too bad our membership has expired. Not sure if we'll renew again for another year. But this is definitely one little place we don't mind coughing up some cash for. Much better than dealing with traffic and crowds, just an overall peaceful getaway in Vienna.
