My Afternoon/Evening Schedule as a WOHM (w/ a 3.5 year old preschooler and a 22 month old toddler)

Here is the rest of my day as a WOHM, after I get off from work. You can read about my morning here.

(Anna is 3.5 years old and Will is 22 months old.)

3:45 – 4:00pm – I leave work and arrive home.

4:00 – 4:15pm – I change into my comfy clothes (PJs), chat with Grandma about the day, and she leaves.

4:15 – 5:00pm – This is probably the busiest time of the day, as I try to get dinner on the table while the kids run in circles around me. However, it could also be a pretty easy time, depending on a couple of things. If we are just having leftovers, then I spend time with the kids. Lately, we play Tumblin Monkeys and Let’s Go Fishin’, but both games usually end in frustration. If Luke isn’t busy with work, he takes the kids outside to get mail and play (the other day they had fun with this t-ball set), leaving me in peace to cook.

5:00 – 5:45pm – Dinner time. Anna eats well on her own without much hassling, but I often have to feed Will spoon by spoon. They kids are done first and get down, while Luke and I finish and clean up. I give the kids fruit.

5:45 – 7:00pm – Family time, it's different every day, but it always include some snacking. Normally on Wednsdays (like yesterday), my parents come over (from 4:15 to 6:30pm) and they spend time with the kids.

7:00pm – Hallelujah! We are near the end! Luke gives the kids a bath and brush their teeth, while I prep for bedtime and then hop into shower.

7:25pm – I am clean and browse a bit on the Kindle before going to get the kids from bath. I get Anna first – dry and PJs on. Then she’s off to get books for us to read. Then I go back to get Will – dry and PJs on. Luke showers.

By about 7:40pm – We are all on the bed, ready to read books.

By 8:15 – 8:30pm – Last potty break for Anna. A drink of water for both and they are in bed!

After the kids are in bed, it’s free time for us. I may spend 15-20 minutes doing blog pictures, but normally we spend the rest of the night together watching shows or movies or documentaries. After that, I go upstairs, tuck myself in bed, and browse before falling asleep between 10:00 – 11:00pm.

The kids crawl into our bed sometime after 1am. And then the day starts again.

  1. So fun to get a peak into what your day is like! My work schedule is different depending on the day of the week, so we don't have a steady routine. We try to get our girls to bed by 8:30 pm too, and fortunately that's getting easier to do now that it's getting dark out earlier. Have a great day!

  2. No matter the family, every day seems like one task after another and the day is such a whirlwind!! Nice to see what your schedule is like. I can't wait to settle into a schedule now that we are a new family of 4. We were well on our way until I got furloughed yesterday and now we're back to "maternity leave" schedule, haha.

    1. I am furloughed, too. Sort of. I get paid through the week, but starting next week I use my personal days until I exhaust them. Then it's furlough. Hope it gets resolved quickly!

  3. It's interesting how we always almost get a schedule set and then one of them throws it all out of line. This has been a good schedule so far and hope it stays for a bit. Though I know we'll have to adjust as the little ones grow more and more.
