It finally happened!

upload
It is truly a momentous day.

Today, since starting school on January 2nd, Anna did not cry at drop off.

Wooohooo!!

I've mentioned before that Anna was having a very hard time adjusting to school. You can read all about it here and here. After all these months of stressing and worrying, we were about to pull the trigger and just try again in September when the miracle finally happened.

She stopped.

It all started to unfold last week - an usual ONE AND HALF hour of crying fest turned to sobbing for 30 minutes. Then it was 10 seconds. Then, today, nothing. Not a peep. Just a "Mama, I love you!" and off she went into her classroom. I caught her giving her teacher a hug as I walked away. I am so proud of her! :) :) :)

Now, I don't expect that she will never cry at school again, but it's a great feeling knowing that she can do it. That she has made a significant progress since January. It took her a while to get here, but slow and steady wins the race, right? Haha.

It happened to be report card day...and here is what the teacher had to say:

This totally calls for a celebration.

  1. Yay Anna!! I swear something just clicks in there heads and they realize it's just going to be okay. Ephram cried and cried last year when I'd drop him off at his twice a month "school" and then one day he just stopped doing it.
Our little ones are growing up!

  2. Yaaaaaaaay! It's so nice when the drop off is good because it sets the tone for the rest of the day. For your day and hers. Our son has been in daycare since he was a little over a year old, and drop offs were hard then. They can be hard sometimes now too because he says he doesn't want to go to school either. He'd rather stay home and watch TV ;). Nevertheless, I can see that if we switch daycares, or when he starts kindergarten, tears for everyone again :).

    1. I know...it's too bad that summer is almost here and she will have 2+ months off. I am sure the crying will start again in September, but I got my fingers and toes crossed.

  3. One detail that has been left out is that Joyce has been the one consistently taking Anna to school lately. Before, it could either be me or her or Grandma and Anna would behave differently. But having a standard morning and drive on school days definitely helped make this day possible.

    1. I asked her to smile and that was the face she gave me.
