Celebrating Valentine's Day At Home

Although Valentine's Day fell on a Saturday this year, hubs and I still spent it apart for most of the day due to his classes. So I ended up spending the day with my family and hubs came over after school for dinner.

Then on Sunday*, we had a five-course meal (throughout the day).

Remember the menu I made a long time ago? Yeah, well, I never got around to it. Until now. =p Hubs had been giving me a hard time about it for the last five months and I finally, FINALLY (!), delivered my promise.

Making a five-course meal was labor-intensive - lots and lots of chopping involved. To make it easier, I broke it up into two parts - lunch and dinner. For lunch, we had appetizer and dessert. And for dinner, we had soup, side, and entrée.

I know I cheated a bit, but there was no way we could've ate all that food in one setting anyway.

I was most proud of my steaks. They were simply rubbed with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, but they turned out so juicy and yummy. I cooked them in 10 minutes under the broiler.

Our entire meal was fabulous and I had so much fun cooking, it's definitely something I look forward to doing again for Valentine's Day next year or in the near future.

*We also exchanged cards. Hubs did the cutest drawing inside, with a sweet note. It's one of my favorite cards from him!

  1. You two are so stinkin cute it's borderline disgusting, lol! And maybe one day I'll graduate to steak cooking. I JUST made my first cupcakes the other day so I've got a ways to go. I should try one of your recipes and see if I can manage something simple without butchering it :)

  2. Boy oh boy do I remember that menu. I've been counting the days go by waiting for it to show up in front of me. Anniversary, holidays, burfdays...they all went by with no steak in sight. And then on Vday, it finally showed up! And it was worth the wait! Thanks Suggy!

  3. Dorkys, I think steaks are probably easier to make them cupcakes!

You are welcome babes! Glad I didn't overcook the steaks. :)
