I took a day off from work on Friday. I had two hectic weeks at work and I wanted some time to catch up with myself. I had no appointments, no errands, no do-do list. The day was about doing whatever my heart desired.

I left the husband + dog at home and went on a solo trip. I went to a local park and took a gentle stroll along the lake. I needed to stretch my legs and I needed some stillness. I had my big camera with me, ready to be inspired.

At the park, I chatted with an old man. I passed by a couple with a cute collie. I noticed three ladies power walking. I snapped a bunch of photos. It was a gorgeous mid-morning for some peace and quiet. Perfect for recharging my soul. It felt really great.

And now, read on if you like a tour of Burke Lake Park through the eyes of sugarlens!

I have been coming here since I was a kid...

Burke Lake has a miniature train ride. My parents and I went on it last time. The ride covers over 1.75 miles of rail track. The park also has a carousel and ice cream parlor. All open seasonally.

Burke Lake has many picnic shelters for parties. I even considered renting a shelter at one point for the wedding, but decided against it. Too much work. It would make a great venue for birthday parties or get-togethers, though.

Luke and I picnicked on the other side of the fence a couple of years ago.

Burke Lake Park's centerpiece is a 218-acre lake with fishing shoreline, fishing pier, and a boat launching dock. I would like to try boating one of these days.

Burke Lake Loop Trail follows the shoreline 4.7 miles around the lake. I walked the trail several times before, but only walked a bit on Friday.

My best "leafy" shots:

If you live in the area, now is a fantastic time to visit Burke Lake. All the trees are still changing colors and walking the trail is enjoyable when it is not hot. But what I really want to do is pile all the leaves...then jump in! Are you with me?

  1. oooh, nice pics oh. Wish I was there. A least we're having a nice Saturday right now. I even got out of class early. But there's no one home and I don't know where anyone is. Hmm...I think my ramen is done, time for dindin. =[

  2. My parents and I went to Shenandoah! Hmm...I think I am done taking fall pics now.

  3. Beautiful photos...especially the leafy ones. I love going for long strolls alone. It looks like you had a good time. I hear ya about jumping in leaves...
