The Last Sunny Day

On Christmas Day 2007, Luke and I spent the morning and early-afternoon exploring Waikiki Beach. Little did we know that this would be the last real sunny day of our vacation. If we had known, I think we would've spent more time outside. The Waikiki Beach strip stretches roughly 1 mile. It takes about 30 minutes to walk from one end to the other. Since we visited shops, hotels, and took pictures along the way, it took us a couple of hours round trip.

Overall, I wasn't fond of Waikiki Beach. It was a typical shopping strip with lots of high-end labels like Hermes, Chanel, and Kate Spade -- all targeted toward the Japanese tourists. I wasn't interested in any of them nor I could afford them, personally. Still though, we had fun walking and people-watching under the sun.

It felt nothing like Christmas in Oahu, but Christmas decorations were abundant. All the stores remained open for the tourists.

The International Market Place was the place to buy little Hawaiian trinkets. There were literally hundreds of vendor carts and shops in the Market Place, selling essentially the same things.

Luke and I got our matching shorts here. We looked forever for the right sizes. Since we couldn't try them on, we were looking for something bigger rather than smaller. And since we wanted to match, it took us extra longer. The store lady was quite nice and helped us. She even went next door to her sister's shop for additional sizes! Ultimately, we had to come back again because Luke's shorts were too big. He had to exchange for a smaller one. But yeah, now we can wear our shorts and wedding t-shirts to Disney this September!

After spending way too much time looking for the perfect shorts, we walked toward the beach. It was a bright sunny day, perfect beach weather. Clear water and blue sky. Not a shabby way to spend our first Christmas together, if you ask me!

  1. Wow, it really was our first Xmas together. We each used to spend it with our respective families, but this year we didn't. While it was strange to be spending it on a sunny beach, it was still nice spending the day together. =D There'll be plenty more to come. They won't be in Hawaii or anything, but I'm still looking forward to them all. The next one is only 10 months away!
