all that wedding stuff

I stayed home today from work...just felt like extending the 3-day weekend for one extra day. =]
My accomplishments:

A map of the Gardens so our guests don't get lost. I took the map from the Visitor Center when we visited it in March. It was just a plain black and white map, but look what I can do with Photoshop! I am pretty happy with my work. We will include this in the wedding invitation.
The favors. Yesterday Luke and I assembled the favors and today I finished up the last few (had to run to Walmart this morning to get more ribbons). The chopsticks were $1 each, I got the tags from a lady on eBay for $7, and $4 for the ribbons. SO....the cost for each pair is $1.28. Not bad at all!

Tonight I am meeting a home-based florist who can work with my $100 flower budget.

Since my photographer is already costing me an arm and a leg for her service, I got the bare minimum deal -- 4 hours of photography and a DVD with the edited images. No books or anything. I am looking forward in creating my own book later this year, with all the photos I am taking while planning the wedding, the wedding photos, and the photos of our honeymoons. It will be lots of work and fun and I am already looking into who I will use to create the book. Yay for DIY!

I bought this from Michaels more than a month ago. Luke and I were looking for DIY invitation ideas since getting them done professionally is crazy expensive (at least $150). We saw this kit in the clearance section for $15 and grabbed it up immediately. I did a test try the night we got it (see Detail Shots posting), but this morning, we printed out all the invitations, response cards, directions cards, and reception cards. I feel a sense of accomplishment. It took about 2 hours to finish using our little Samsung laser printer. They turned out nicely and now we just need to pretty them up a bit before sending them out in mid-July!

Cover of the box...a bit worn...but the price was right!

Our hard work.

Bridal Shop

Yesterday I went to my friend's bridal shop (En Style Wedding Designs of Manassas) grand opening. I met Charles (he actually hired me) at BearingPoint. We were supposed to work together on a project, but because of timing, we never did get a chance to. However, he remained to be both my official and unofficial adviser throughout my 1.5 years at BE. Being the classy guy that he is, Charles doesn't hold it against me that I am now working for a BE competitor and invited me to his grand opening!

The shop is actually his wife, Monica's, and it is located in downtown Manassas, in the historical part of town where there are lots of one-way streets. The grand opening was full of festivities - plenty of food, drinks, cake samples (yum-O), live-music, and models modeling. It was great and I t I saw:

En Style Wedding Designs of Manassas is located inside the Morais Plaza. It's' on the 3rd level.

Inside the shop are bridal dresses, bridesmaid dresses, flower girl dresses, shoes, wedding invitations, and ANYTHING wedding related.

Bridal gowns.

Proud owners. Good luck! I will make sure to refer you guys!

Tepper Weekend

This weekend I went to Pittsburgh to see Ken graduate. I think I got a taste on what it would be like to be a professional photographer. I was tired from taking pictures for roughly 5 hours and once I got home, I had hundreds of photos to sort through. I edited them, and here are few of my favorites. Of course I didn't have the stress that comes with it for a paid professional, but I was still so tired! Although, I enjoyed the experience and had fun. Congrats Ken! Good luck at Merck. They are lucky to have you.

Pargo Madness

After looking at many slide show maker tools, I think I will go with this one for now. It's fairly easy to use and the best part is that it's free. Now I just need to figure out how to stop it automatically when the show is over instead of it repeating over and over again. And when I get really advanced...add music!

Honeymoon (Part II) is starting to look more real. I made reservations at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa yesterday (right on the Waikiki beach!) and today I booked the cruise part of the honeymoon. This will be our 2nd cruise in a year! haha!! And to think that when we got off the boat in San Juan earlier this year, we vowed to never cruise again. =] The good news is that everything can be canceled without penalty, so I still have several months to do more research.

Sign In Please

I found this great idea of using ceramic plate as the guest book for our wedding. Guests can write their words of wisdom for us (using a special marker) on the plate, we take it home and bake it, and we can use the plate either for its original purpose or display it as a decor. So neat and unique! Much better than your boring guest book I think. I got the plate from Little Missy Arty Pants. Tina Rosel was pleasant to deal with and her product arrived on time and exactly as I expected. I picked the 11" Plate, roughly for 30-50 signatures.

Here is the design:

Just feel like posting this up. Except for the sandals, I designed the card. Actually, the green/pink sandals used to be all pink, but Luke changed part of it to green to match the wedding colors. =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] =] - 9 happy faces for 9/9!

Disney Cupu

Something bad happened today...I broke Luke's cup. =[ Sorry babes! It's actually a cup I gave to him back in college so it has sentimental values. Luke glued it back together, but we will never be able to use it again. It will be displayed on top of the fireplace though, and we will see it everyday. We will always remember the Disney Cupu.

Not quite good as new...

Cool Cammy

I got my new SD800 today! Because I have been talking about becoming a professional photographer, Luke got me this cool new cammy for our anniversary. :-* There are tons of functions and I am still trying to figure them out. I will post photos taken using this new cammy later this week. In the meantime, here is a picture of the new cammy, taken by the old (but still good, yeah, still good) SD200!

The Dressy Story

Yay!! THE dress is here! Of all the days, my wedding dress arrived on the day that I had to work late. I was so worried that UPS wouldn't leave it at the door...but luckily, Luke came home earlier to wait for the shipment. Thanks babes! I love love love my dress. It's simple and elegant and fits me perfectly. No alteration required! I may add a champagne color sash, but that's it! I was also nervous about the length too because I got a P4 instead of a regular 2. But again, with my shoes on, the length couldn't be more perfect.

Here is The Dressy Story:
I ordered* the Lillian Duchess Satin gown back in late March, but after waiting for more than a month, I finally called JCrew to see what's up. After hearing many stories, they finally confirmed that they are no longer expecting any new shipment for the Lillian. The only hope of me getting one is if a customer returns a size 2. I was thinking, Darn! Should I wait? Then I remembered their Vivian gown -- it's very similar to the Lillian, except without the sash, and MUCH more reasonably priced. The Vivian gown is discontinued, but it still shows up in the sale section every now and then. So while on the phone with a coordinator from Special Occasion, I asked about the Vivian. She found one in stock! This all happened last Friday, and I received the dress today. =] Sooo happy with my gown and can't wait to wear it!

I am sure no one reads my blog except Luke, Ken, and Andy, but better to be safe than sorry!

The box that the dress came in. Still unopened at this time...=]

The dress was carefully wrapped.

Luke took the following 3 pictures, but I edited them. That's our fish tank in the back. I think we have 27 fishes. It would've been more but 2 little babies were killed and eaten. We still don't know who the killer is....
Trying on the dress for the first time. Checking myself out....need to get rid of that tan line!

This should be entered in some contest. Maybe Luke and I will become a husband and wife team, specializing in wedding photography. Hey, hire us!!

I am still wait-listed for the Lillian. It's beautiful, but I love my Vivian dress and I am keeping it. I will cancel the Lillian tomorrow.

4 more months to go!

*I visited 2 local bridal shops with Tiffany and Meredith back in March. After trying on a couple of dresses and saw the prices, I stopped looking and decided to go with JCrew.
